Vans

The Vans brand has a rich history having been first manufactured in 1966 in the USA. Today Vans trainers and footwear are made for both men and women and their shoes and sneekers are particularly popular with Skateboarders and BMX riders.

Paul Van Doren was the original founder of the company, after he had built up a reputation within the shoes industry  working for Randy's a large Boston firm who produced millions of trainers each year. He worked his way through the company to become executive vice president. Van Doren decided that he wanted to leave his job in 1964 and set about building the contacts to launch Vans Footwear.

Upon the companies launch in 1964 Vans became only the fourth US trainer manufacturer to make vulcanised footwear after Randy's, Keds and Converse. They had an aggressive launch policy and within 10 weeks they had opened 10 Vans stores to compliment their manufacturing facility and within 18 months had increased this number to over 60.

By 1975 Vans were getting a following amongst skaters so they deiced to make the Vans deck shoes to appeal to this sector of the market. In the late 1970's they launched their now legendary Vans Checkerboard slip on trainer which has gone on to sell multi millions of pairs around the world. 

Through the 1980's the company started to make Vans baseball and basketball shoes to increase their share of the trainers market. Today the Vans range is huge and they have always been known for making custom shoes, within the custome shoes range they have era, slip-on and old skool models.
