Ugg Boots is a generic term first created in New Zealand and Australia for a type of boot made from sheepskin and with a fleece lining. It wasnt until 1978 however that UGG® Australia was formed by Brian Smith, a young Australian who took several pairs to California, USA with him to see if he could sell them Stateside. He immediately sold out of his Ugg Boots, so decided to trademark the Ugg Boots name and form the UGG® Australia company.

In 1995 the popularity of UGG® boots had grown so much that the large corporaion Deckers Outdoors bought UGG® Australia outright and set out to exmapnd the range and its amount of official and authorised distributors stockists and retailers. By 1998 they had expanded their range to include several boots, sandals, and slippers.

UGG® Australia set out to make their products a luxury item that would be distributed only amongst luxury outlets to prevent the cheapening of the brand.

Today UGG® boots are available in several styles including the classic boot which is available in short and tall heights and several colours including black, chestnut, chocolate, grey and sand. The Bailey button ugg boots which are also available in black, chestnut, chocolate, grey and sand plus crystal blue, dusty wysteria and seashell rose. They also have the argyle and cardy boots, Lo Pro and drawstring boots within their collections.Two other very popular styles are the Classic Tall Ugg Boots and the Classic Short Ugg Boots
