Moncler

The Moncler brand was founded in 1952 in a small village not far from Grenoble in France by Rene Ramillon. They first started out making sleeping bags, but in 1954 they created their first Moncler down jackets to protect local workers from the extreme weather conditions.

By 1968 Monclers jackets and clothing had become so influential and advanced in their design that they were asked to supply the French Winter Olympics team with clothing and equipment. Originally Moncler only manufactured double down jackets but by 1972 and under the influence of the French team they were asked to manufacture a single down jacket which was lighter and more flexible and more suited to the requirements of winter athletes. These single down jackets were known as Huascaran and Nepal whereas the double down jackets were known as Karakorum.

By the 1980's Monclers Jackets and clothing were no longer just marketed at the winter sports sector and became more a fashion item aswell as people liked the stylish designs and the practicality of their make up. This new sector push led the Italian fashion designer Remo Ruffini to buy the brand in 2003. Since the brand became Italian owned its fashion output has increased heavily and it now produces a range of womens moncler jackets.
