Havaianas

Havaianas are the essential summer accessory, perfect for holiday, laying by the beach or pool or going in the sea and the vast range of colours means their is a style to suit all tastes and outfits.

The company is Brazilian based and owned and is nearly 50 years old having first launched in 1962 in Sao Paolo. The company wanted to make a sandal that was more hard wearing than canvas ones so decided to make a flip flop using rubber. They were sold around the poor neighbourhoods and were made to appeal to the poor.

Through tourists coming to Brazil the flip-flops started to become highly popular and gain international exposure and in 1996 they started to put the Brazilian flag on every pair to celebrate Brazils involvement in the 1996 World Cup.

By 2000 Havaianas had started to attract a celebrity following, particularly in Hollywood, USA which led to a huge increase in sales and exposure for the company. More recently the company has started to make a range of traditional Espadrille shoes to sit alongside their flip-flop and thing range.
