Barbour has seen a huge resurgence in its popularity in recent years particularly with their range of Barbour Jackets for both men and women. The Quilted jackets come in several different styles and colours and also in different materials. Popular styles within this range include the Liddesdale, International, Chelsea and Eskdale models. Colour availability includes Black, Navy Blue, Dark Brown, Olive and Cream.

The company is fiercely British in its Heritage and has a long and established history as a clothing manufacturer. The brand was founded in 1894 by Scotsman John Barbour who was living in South Shields in the North East of England by the time he came up with the concept.

Although Barbour is very much a fashion brand in todays market place, the company originally started out as a workwear manufacturer, making tough and rugged clothing that was perfect for the industrial nature of the North East and in particular the ship building industry that was so prevalent at the time. Indeed the clothing was so popular and hard wearing that the British Army bought directly from Barbour for uniforms both in the first and second world wars, particularly the oil skin clothing that gave troops waterproof equipment.

Barbour has long been associated with the landed gentry of the UK with farmers and hunters favouring their clothing for their country pursuits. Indeed it was and is rare for those who enjjoy shooting and hunting not to be seen in a Barbour Jackets. The quality and styling of their products has won them several Royal Warrants from the British Royal family including one from both Prince Charles and the Queen too.

The company is still family owned today and is now in the fourth generation of the Barbour family clan and it is this consistency that has been essential to the brands consistent success and re-emergence as a player within the fashion scene.
